The Inspector and Silence

by Håkan Nesser

Fifth in the Inspector Van Veeteren series, this mystery is just as satisfying as the first.

In the midst of a heat wave, our good inspector is preparing for a much deserved holiday. Alas! A girl from a religious sect, the Pure Life, is found raped and murdered. Inspector Van Veeteren is, of course, called in the help with the investigation.

The plot thickens when the members of the sect remain tight-lipped with the police. Their silence frustrates those investigating the crime and leads them to believe that the members of the sect must somehow be involved in the murder.

The stifling heat, the silence, and Van Veeteren’s own frustration with his job make for a tough case. Loved it!
