Dr. Pete Dizinoff has always wanted the perfect life: wife, career, and son. He has done well for himself, at least in the wife and career departments. His son, Alec, has been a bit of a struggle, even in the process of conception.
Pete's best friend, Joe, is also a doctor and has a daughter. Laura is not perfect, not by anyone's standards. In fact, she has quite a frightful past.
When Laura and Alec get together, Pete cannot bear it. Laura can only lead Alec down a path of destruction, at least in Pete's opinion. What follows is Pete's own self-destruction in the process of trying to "save" his son.
